“Waves Across The Pond”
- Description:
- “Waves” is an introduction to how technology and the powerful resource of social networking open doors for creative and collaborative processes in music. Joining Neil Alexander is Bassist, writer & educator and international performer Steve Lawson. Steve lives in London where he teaches bass and writes about music and how musicians can connect with audiences to promote their music. Although Neil and Steve have not met in person, both artists are career musicians who are delighted to share knowledge and skills with the Orange County Community.
On June 1st, each musician offers a 90-minute workshop focusing on innovative developments in sound creation and manipulation. Neil discusses and demonstrates use of synthesizers and electronics for improvising in “Jazz in the Digital Age”. Steve’s “Solo Bass & Beyond” workshop moves beyond the confines of any one-way of looking at the bass guitar as an instrument. On June 2nd, Steve Lawson and Neil Alexander will perform together for the first time, and host a discussion about social media tools i.e. twitter, facebook, blogging, metrics and relevant topics.
“Waves Across The Pond” will bring to life communication and sound creation techniques standard in the music industry. A camera will stream the June 2 performance live on the Internet allowing a wider community to view and post comments online in real time. The Internet stream connects Orange County, NY to viewers worldwide. The June 1 workshops will be video captured. An Internet web page will be created where the workshops and performance can be accessed after the conclusion. This event brings a music aspect to the programs WRS offers the community.
Suggested donation for the workshops is $10. Admission for the performance/discussion is $5.
